Losing Sleep?

Theoretically, adults should sleep 7 to 8 hours a day.

For the average adult these days, that is just about as likely to happen as me finally getting the pony I have been asking for every year for my birthday.

Researchers are noting that the American public is sleeping even less these days - a recent poll showed that we are now averaging 6.7 hours of sleep a night.

So unless they start making the days longer, or our to-do list becomes magically shorter, we need to make sure that any time we actually get our heads within the general vicinity of our pillows, we are getting good quality sleep. There are a variety of methods you can use to develop that desired results -- aromatherapy, pharmaceuticals, relaxation exercises, etc. But do not doubt the power of a nutritional approach to getting some ZZZ's.

My two favorites:

L-Theanine capsules keep it simple -- just 200 mgs of that delightful amino acid that supports relaxation. L-Theanine actually helps your body create other calming amino acids and neurotransmitters -- Dopamine, GABA, Tryptophan etc. However it doesn't directly cause drowsiness; instead it just helps your body and mind relax enough that sleep begins to feel like a very achievable goal.

5-HTP is another type of amino acid -- it is the precursor to the feel-good neurotransmitter, Serotonin. We have added a dash of Vitamin B6 to help the conversion process along -- both to convert 5-HTP to Serotonin, and to help convert you into the blissful state of unconsciousness known as sleep.

Take care of yourself -- get some sleep!
